From its inception in 1976, Daviess County Right to Life held its meetings at Bethany Christian Church between Washington and Montgomery. Ben Bean, Pastor of Bethany Christian Church for more than 40 years, invited the Right to Life to hold meetings at the church. Ben Bean became Vice President of the board and retained that role for many years. Ben and Eva Bean are remembered as being very welcoming to members of the Right to Life, and many lasting friendships were made as a result of Ben’s hospitality. Pictured above is the old Bethany Christian Church west of Montgomery on Hwy 50 just two days before the church was taken down. After the first meeting was held at the YMCA in Washington it moved its meetings to Bethany Church thanks to Pastor Ben Bean.
In 1999, when Donna Gentry was Right to Life president and founded the Pregnancy Care Center, the Right to Life meetings moved to the Pregnancy Care Center location on Main Street in Washington. When the building sold in September 2004, the Pregnancy Care Center and Right to Life office moved to 608 W. Walnut Street in Washington. November 2008 saw the two organizations move again, this time to the lower level of Grace Baptist Church at 705 Troy Road. This is where the Right to Life keeps offices to this day. In 2021, the Pregnancy Care Center moved to a renovated facility, transitioning to a medical clinic and changing its name to First Choice Solutions.
Right to Life members who were with the organization in its early days will always have a tinge of nostalgia for the old church building on Highway 50. The old Bethany Christian Church was demolished and a new church built on Highway 57, south of Washington, to accommodate its booming membership. Right to Life members will always remember Ben and Eva Bean and the many hours worked together for Daviess County Right to Life.
